Michelle N. Blakely, MA

Prior to moving to the Bay Area in 1997, Michelle grew up in Houston Texas and has roots in New Orleans Louisiana too. She attended Catholic school and church thru High School and was formerly a practicing catholic until graduation from college when she embraced the convergence of Eastern, Ancient Wisdom and Christ Consciousness philosophy and practices.

Michelle became a member of EBCRS in late summer 2018 and knew she had found her spiritual home after years of searching. Volunteer experience at EBCRS includes work in the Bookstore; Kwanzaa Committee; Black History Committee; the 46th Anniversary Gala: co-Lead Silent/Live Auctions; Centers for Spiritual Living (CSL) voting member representing EBCRS for the selection of CSL’s new Spiritual Leader and EBCRS new Minister Nominating Committee. She’s taken several SOM classes.

Michelle received her undergraduate degree In Psychology with a minor in Religious Studies from Southern Methodist University in Dallas Texas and a graduate degree from San Francisco State University in Early Childhood Special Education Administration. In her off time, Michelle enjoys hiking, reading, yoga, traveling, making collages and metaphysical practices. Favorite recent reads: Caste, Mediations Across Kings River, 400 Souls and Just as I am — Cicely Tyson.

Professionally, Michelle has over 30 years’ experience in the non-profit, private philanthropy and public service sectors in child and family serving organizations. Currently serving as the Deputy Director of First 5 San Mateo County, I provide executive leadership in all aspects of the agency’s work including strategy, program development, budget planning, advocacy, and Commission/Board engagement. Colleagues describe her as an enthusiastic visionary leader with great people skills, practical mindedness, and creativity.

She brings expertise in Project Management; Strategy & Design, Executive Leadership; Facilitation; Fundraising and Development and Donor Engagement. She has served on non-profit boards and am currently enjoys serving in an advisory role for Racial Equity Diversity and Inclusion groups for philanthropy and San Mateo County.
