General Overview
Thank you for considering the candidacy for the East Bay Church of Religious Science Board of Trustees. The Board serves an important role in manifesting the vision of our community, fundraising, and determining policy that supports its growth. The Board works with the Staff Team to serve, represent, and steward the congregation. Board members are elected to serve a three-year term. The following information outlines the basic position requirements, expectations, nomination process, and election procedures.

You may enter your responses into the Google Form available at this link: or you may print the form and turn in a paper copy of your responses to Reverend Arleen King, COO, or any member of the Board.
Basic Requirements
- One year membership at East Bay Church of Religious Science
- Practitioner consciousness (non-licensed or licensed) (i.e., Abundance, Unity/Oneness, Service)
- Business experience and/or organizational skills, fund development and fundraising skills
- Skilled and generative thinker; and investment in the formation of policy and systems of accountability
- Demonstrated or potential skills in governance leadership
- Ease with long-range planning
- Strong grasp of Science of Mind principles and completion of an introduction class (ie: “Beyond Limits”, “Foundations”, “Change Your Thinking, Change Your Life”)
- Demonstrated commitment to the East Bay Church of Religious Science community
- Desire and ability to give time and talent to the EBCRS (sacred seva) (varies, average of 8-12 hours per month)
- Have a record of regular gracious giving to the Center (tithes and donations)
Expectations
- Fill a minimum three year term
- Attend monthly board meetings (usually the third Saturday of each month)
- Typically, meeting are held in-person at church and online via Zoom on a rotation
- Actively contribute to visioning/planning activities
- Maintain visibility in our community (i.e., attend Sunday service, events, classes, ministries, etc.)
- Communicate and listen to congregants, welcome visitors, consciously develop a sense of community where everyone feels seen and that they belong
- Active engagement in board activities, tasks & committees
- Participate in Board Orientation
- Commitment to balancing transparency with discretion and confidentiality when required
Trustees serve one to three year terms. The congregation each year in March elects new trustees to the board. In September, the Trustees Nominating Team collects applications and interviews interested board candidates to select a slate for election by the congregation. Candidates who replace Trustees at term’s end are presented to the Board for approval. If you would like more information on becoming a Trustee, contact the church office.
The Board of Trustees typically meets on the third Saturday of the month at 10am in the Fellowship Hall. Minutes of each board meeting are available upon request.
Nomination Process and Selection Procedures

- Notice of openings shared with congregation
- Applicants completes questionnaire and submits biography
- Nominating Committee reviews applications and pre-screens applicants
- Nominating Committee interviews eligible candidates
- Nominating Committee recommends final candidates to the Board
- Board reviews nominees and makes recommendations
- Final slate of nominees is announced
- Nominees are presented to members at the Annual Membership Meeting
- New Trustees are elected at the Annual Membership Meeting
